As Kaufmann makes clear, for Debord political thought and action were inseparable from aesthetics and poetic expression. Whether envisioning the recovery of a lost, protocommunist age of authenticity and transparency in The Society of the Spectacle or critically assessing the possibility of revolution against postmodern capitalism two decades later, Debord advocated and practiced an art of defiance, a concurrently martial and melancholic poetics. Avoiding the mythologies about Debord that both admirers and critics have cultivated, Kaufmann provides a groundbreaking and generous assessment of Debord and his uncompromising struggle against a corrupt civilization.

Well written biography of the man who fought to save the Indian tigers, Fateh Singh Rathore

Having just visited this beautiful park, and being lucky enough to see tigers on both of my safari,s I was interested to learn more about the man who made this park possible. He faced many adversaries which are well documented by the author. The world is a better place for his efforts. A well written book, kudos to the author who met him as a child and shared with us his essence.

good both for basics and more unusual recipes

I have Elinor Klivan's book on cupcakes and I've like it, so when I was looking for donut books, hers was one of the ones I decided to get. I haven't been disappointed. With recipes like Salted Caramel-Pecan donuts and Brown Sugar donuts with Cinnamon-Orange glaze, there are plenty of recipes to look forward to making. She also does a good job with the basics. The recipes are detailed enough so that you have a clear idea of what to do. There are also sections at the beginning of the book that give more information on techniques like deep-frying the donuts. This book would be suitable for those that are just trying out donut making, as well as those who are looking for some new recipes.

Good book, just beware of mistake in flour weight

The book contains a great variety for fried donuts and alike (such as a recipe for filled beignets).
Just the conversion of flour from cups to grams is off. The recipe for yeast donuts states 3.25 cups or 515g, that gives 158 g per cup! If you use the weight in oz, it will give you 5.07 oz per cup, or 143g. A quick web search shows that a cup of all-purpose flour should contain ~ 4.5 oz or 125g. Unaware of all this, the first time I tried to make the yeast donut recipe, I did so by weight (using grams). I had to use less flour because the dough wouldn't mix, and still I ended up with a heavy dough because of that.

Then there was Gregor MacGregor, a Scottish explorer who returned to London to sell shares in a land he had discovered in South America. He had been appointed the Cazique of Poyais, and bestowed with many honours by the local king of this unspoiled paradise. Now he was offering others the chance to join him and make their fortune there, too - once they had paid him a bargain fee for their passage...The Phantom Atlas is a beautifully produced volume, packed with stunning maps and drawings of places and people that never existed. The remarkable stories behind them all are brilliantly told by Edward Brooke-Hitching in a book that will appeal to cartophiles everywhere.

It is targeted to the beginner, and (though a beginner myself) I think it is quite informative and gets one off to a good start. Very good book with excellent photographs. Good advices for those who want to buy, create or simply take good care of bonsai trees. The author explains very well how to do almost everything with these wonderful trees. If you're intention is to buy only one book of bonsai you should buy this one. It's my favourite!

Helped my bonsai live!

Anyone just starting out with their first bonsai will benefit from this book. It helped me to learn not only about not only the history of the bonsai but how to really care for my little tree. My bonsai seems to be better looking and healthier than before I had this book. I would recommend this book to anyone considering buying a bonsai, this book helps you to know how and what type of bonsai to buy too.

Brave and amazing.

I am in awe of this author. I have read more than one book on stillbirth and the raw emotion of this one is amazing. The fact that she didn't just lose it after the hospital sent her home to await her labor is nothing short of inspiring. Honestly i couldn't be so strong. Book is highly recommended.
